Below I posted a few shots I captured from a few days ago when I was helping a local friend’s nephew make mud bricks for a home he is building in a nearby village.  He saves hundreds of dollars making his own bricks, and quite honestly, could not afford to do it any other way.  As of a few days ago the count was 1500 bricks…8000 bricks total will be needed.

Now, I feel the need to preface these shots. haha.  I realize I’m not looking overly dirty and sweaty, but you need to know I took part in each step.  However, SOMEONE needed to wash their hands though in order to take the pictures.  I seriously think it was some of the hardest physical labour I have ever done.  Also, I did have a clothing change part way through the morning, as the sun began beating down and long sleeves were needed to protect from the sun.

The guys were so patient teaching me along the way, and kindly put up with me dropping the wet mud all over the place as I was trying to get safely into the mould.  It was an experience for the books…that’s for sure.

  1. Wow Andrea …… good for you for getting your hands dirty and helping! Most of us have no idea, do we? Appreciated seeing these pics and learning a little of the process.
This stirs up thankfulness in my heart for sure!!

I’m glad you enjoyed seeing the pics – it was quite the opportunity and experience. I now feel equipped for all future home building projects 😉
And likewise, the thankfulness for what we do have is ever increasing in my heart, too. I think it almost impossible for thankfulness not to rise from our lives when we stare such poverty or difficult life circumstances in the face.
